OVGE coming up soon!

Back in the middle of June I announced that I'd be showing off Wild Western at this years Oklahoma Video Game Exhibition. (OVGE - www.OVGE.com)  Time has really flown by since then; And now we're just 8 days away from go time on August 9th. The procrastinator in me is scared I won't be ready in time, the shy part of me is terrified about having to actually talk to people, but the game developer in me is incredibly excited about showing off my work and getting to meet new people with the same love of video games that I have.      Something I don't think I've mentioned is that I'll also be showing off Volcosis and Partly Pop Can at the show as well.  They're both games that I think have a lot of potential that they couldn't quite tap into.      So I guess the reason I made this post is to say: "Yes!! OVGE is almost here!" and to say: "Oh no!! OVGE is almost here! I need to hurry up and get back to work!!!!". ...

Volcosis 1.1 update

Since I've released Volcosis I've gotten quite a bit of great feedback.  And I want to say thanks to those of you that have complimented my game.  But there were some people that had some complaints.  So I've decided to update the game and fix some of those things: Volcosis 1.1 Changelog: -Updated credits -Updated beginning dialogue -You can skip a level after 10 deaths -Added brightness setting It's a pretty minor update, but I figured it couldn't hurt to add just a few more touches. You can download the update from the Gamejolt page here TGBTG, littlejoe, Angelwire Studio

Volcosis Release Date

On January 26th, 2012 I began working on a game.  I had the idea to make a platforming game where the player wasn't just limited to 2 planes of movement.  But I didn't want the player to be confined to the standard 3d platforming genre either.  So I began working on a game where the player could dynamically switch between 2d platforming and 3d platforming.  I began calling the game "Glue"(just the first random name that popped into my head).  After some work on the prototype I realized that I would need to try again.  The prototype was filled with bugs and glitches.  So I started working on a 2d platforming engine.  Once I finished, I began implementing the switching component.  It was awesome.  So I continued working until I felt it was ready to show to the world.  Click read more to continue reading...

Another progress update

It's been a while since my last progress update; and even though nothing terribly exciting has happened I decided to write this small update.

Volcosis Progress Update

Image
Since it has been such a long time since my last blog post, I decided to post about the progress I've been making.

A new level pack and bug fixes

I've updated Volcosis.  There were a few bugs here and there that I fixed.  The "biggest" change was making the pushable blocks move a little smoother.  I'm also releasing a few levels to download.  Click read more to see. To download the update go to the Gamejolt page here: http://gamejolt.com/games/platformer/volcosis/8826/

Playlist Feature added

After a little bit of tinkering around, I think the custom level playlist has been successfully implemented.  I've also added a few little touches to the menu here and there.      Now I'll be starting on Co-op.  Hopefully it won't be too hard to put in this time.(this will actually be the third time I've re-implemented co-op)  I'm really looking forward to Co-op.  I think it will be almost as fun as the main game itself.  It requires quite a bit of cooperation, trust, and timing.  I was actually hoping to add online co-op, but I decided that due to the amount of precise timing and cooperation it would be confusing and irritating to play.      Go to the GameJolt Page to download the update: http://gamejolt.com/games/platformer/volcosis/8826/      TGBTG,      littlejoe,      AngelWire Studio

Progress update for Volcosis

Volcosis Beta Progress update

I haven't been working on the game as much as I should.  I've kind of been slacking off.  But hopefully I'll be more productive here for a while.  Right now I'm updating the player collision engine.  The code was too messy to work with.  It shouldn't take too long to work out.  I'll do my best.(which isn't much)  Anyway I'm taking way too long to make this post.  I should get back to work!

Volcosis update

Wow, it's been quite a while since my last blog post.  So I decided to give you a small update on how Volcosis is coming along.       Well, there aren't too many improvements really.  I tried to add a few things to the game but I didn't like them so I ripped them out.  For instance, I spent all day working on a checkpoint system; and then decided that having checkpoints wouldn't be such a good idea.  There are a few small improvements though.  I did quite a bit of level polishing.  Putting a few more blocks here and there to give the levels a more "cavey" feel.  I also did some improvements to the main engine to get rid of a few bugs and annoyances.      All in all it hasn't been easy work, but it certainly could be much harder.       Here's a list of things I need to do before the next demo is released:           Fix level edi...
